The Director of the Port Authority Pirro Vengu said in a televised interview on Thursday evening that an international tender for construction of the new seaport in the Porto Romano area is expected to be launched next year and it will complete within few months’ time.

According to him, a 36-month deadline has been set for construction of the new cargo port and the current port operations will be transferred in the next four years.

The Port Authority head also said that the project’s funding issue has been almost solved.

“The Albanian state owns 33% of the shares of Durrës Yacht Marina project. According to the revenue projections, in addition to revenue collections from taxes estimated at around one billion euros, direct revenue from the state’s involvement in the project is estimated to amount to over 280 million euros. The Porto Romano cargo port project is estimated to cost around 390 million euros,” he said.

According to Vengu, the country is experiencing a positive financial situation that would allow the government to embark on other major investment projects.

“Happy to welcome U.S. Assistant Secretary for Consular Affairs, Rena Bitter. Good conversation on cooperation to assist our Afghan allies relocate to U.S.,” Foreign Minister Xhaçka said via the social media.

“Very proud of our common achievement thanks to which thousands of our U.S. partners are today able to start a new life in safety,” Xhaçka added.
