TIRANA, Sept 17 /ATA/ – Albania is positioning itself as a regional leader in connectivity and cooperation, Minister-designate for Europe and Foreign Affairs Elisa Spiropali said Wednesday at the 11th Connectivity Forum in Tirana.

Spiropali reaffirmed Albania’s strategic goal of closing EU accession talks by 2027 and joining the EU by 2030, citing the recent opening of four new negotiation chapters as evidence of rapid progress.

“Just yesterday, Albania opened four new chapters under Cluster 4 – Green Agenda and Sustainable Connectivity – which Prime Minister Rama described as another milestone on the European path,” Spiropali said.

“Opening 28 chapters in less than a year shows how Albania has rapidly advanced from a stability-seeking country to a frontrunner candidate.”

She highlighted Albania’s investments in transport infrastructure, energy integration, and digital connectivity, including a planned rail link with Kosovo, a joint energy exchange (ALPEX) with Kosovo and an undersea energy link with Italy and the United Arab Emirates, and over 500 km of rural road improvements.

Spiropali added that Albania is benefiting from over €450 million in EU pre-accession assistance (IPA III) and has strengthened its financial credibility by exiting the MONEYVAL grey list in 2022 and joining the SEPA payments system in 2024.

She Spiropali noted Albania’s growing aviation sector, with Tirana International Airport becoming Europe’s fastest-growing in 2023 and surpassing 10 million passengers in 2024.

Spiropali also emphasized Albania’s efforts in preparing for AI integration in public services and digital governance.
