TIRANA, April 28 /ATA/- By Maela Marini/ The “Mother Teresa” University Hospital Center in Tirana and the University of Medicine signed on Monday a strategic partnership agreement for healthcare services with the European excellence university hospital center “San Raffaele” and the corresponding “Vita – Salute San Raffaele” University in Milan (Italy).

Prime Minister Edi Rama, who attended the signing ceremony of this agreement on Monday, described it as a historic moment for both Albanian healthcare and the country as a whole.

“Today, we are turning a completely new page, a journey that has been long, not easy, and had a starting point that, to say it was disappointing, would be an understatement. We had a situation and a healthcare system where the only undeniable value was the value of the professionals in the system, the doctors and nurses who, in appalling conditions, fought to protect and save lives. Meanwhile, they never imagined that one day the conditions would become what they are today,” said Rama.

Nevertheless, the Prime Minister stressed that “once again, we are much more ambitious than this and are by no means satisfied with what we have accomplished.”

“We aim to take it to the next level. Our goal is to make this hospital center the leading reference for the entire Balkans and transform it into a center of excellence among Europe’s top institutions,” said Rama.

The Prime Minister affirmed that this is fully doable, emphasizing the positive assessments from international experts regarding Albania’s medical personnel.

“We’ve received nothing but praise for the doctors, nurses, and staff at the center. This is the foundation of their confidence, as well as ours, that we can transform the center into a healthcare hub of excellence for the entire Balkans,” said Rama.
