Prime Minister Edi Rama on Tuesday shared footage on social media from the construction site, saying work was continuing to provide the city with a modern sports venue suitable for international competitions.

The project includes upgrades to facilities for athletes and teams while preserving the building’s architectural identity.

Once completed, the renovated sports palace is expected to provide improved conditions for the activities of the “Skënderbeu” Multisport Club and enable the hosting of international-level sporting events.

The project also aims to create a more suitable environment for children and young people, encouraging sports training and participation.

The government head shared images of the renovated school and outlined other investments in education infrastructure across the northern Albania city.

Work is continuing at the “Ismail Qemali” school as part of efforts to modernise the city’s education facilities, while investments will also be extended in the coming months to the “Skënderbej” school and “Oso Kuka” high school, he said.

“‘Kolë Idromeno’ school in Shkoder is ready to welcome students for the new school year. Meanwhile, work continues at ‘Ismail Qemali’, while in the coming months investments will also extend to ‘Skënderbej’ and ‘Oso Kuka’ high school,” Rama said.

The investments are aimed at providing more modern school facilities and better conditions for students and teaching staff.

Education Minister Mirela Kumbaro on Wednesday said some public universities would begin the new academic year with newly built and modernized facilities for teaching and research.

She said investment in university infrastructure aimed to provide better conditions for students and academic staff, while supporting education, research and the development of university capacities.

The projects include upgrades to university infrastructure and facilities, with the aim of creating a more functional academic environment and supporting the internationalization of higher education.

After being cleared of overgrown vegetation, the road will be restored and equipped with signage, lighting for night-time use and protective barriers for visitors heading to the castle along the route. The work is part of investments by the Albanian Development Fund, financed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).

The revival of the Old Bazaar Road is more than the restoration of an old cobbled path. It will bring back into use a historic route linking the past with the present and highlighting heritage values that have remained hidden for years beneath rapid urban development.

Castles once served primarily military and administrative purposes and were therefore built at strategic, elevated locations, while being directly connected to neighbourhoods and areas outside their walls through roads and controlled entrances.

The Old Bazaar Road was once the main route to Shkodra Castle. It connected with Dane’s Mill before joining the Soldiers’ Road on the eastern side of the fortress.

Another route ran along the southern slope of the hill, known as the Grave Road, or Mezar Jolli. It gradually lost importance, particularly after the military command was moved from the castle after 1865. The road was used to transport the bodies of the dead, mainly soldiers, for burial in the Alibegaj neighbourhood.

“This investment includes a new trauma center with modern tools, plus an upgraded air conditioning system for better comfort”, the ministry said.

The University Hospital of Trauma has opened its newly renovated outpatient and internal medicine units, meeting modern healthcare standards. Renovations continue in other areas. These upgrades aim to strengthen the health system and give citizens faster, better care.

Infrastructure and Energy Minister Enea Karakaçi and Albanian Road Authority Director Ami Kozeli on Friday inspected the works, where the binder layer has now been laid along the entire route.

The project includes widening the road, stabilising slopes, installing guardrails and upgrading several hazardous bends, including the elimination of three accident-prone curves, Kozeli said.

Karakaçi described the rehabilitation as a strategic investment for both Albania’s energy sector and the local economy.

“This road serves two important purposes. It provides access to the Koman hydropower plant and the Drin cascade, while also improving connectivity for local residents and supporting tourism in the area,” he said.

The reconstruction is expected to reduce travel time to about 40 minutes while providing faster and safer access for personnel, vehicles and equipment servicing the Koman hydropower plant and other facilities in the Drin cascade.

The government said the project would also improve road safety for local communities and help ensure the reliable operation of one of Albania’s most important energy assets.

This decision guarantees fair access to the Municipality of Tirana’s reconstruction program, protecting the right to housing for all affected families.

Acting Mayor of Tirana Anuela Ristani stated that, “This decision closes a chapter on a years-long problem by providing a solution for families left out of the assistance scheme. Through extensive institutional dialogue and detailed local groundwork, we have identified 375 affected families. Although this number may evolve as pending legal and administrative reviews conclude, all identified families will be treated under the exact same conditions as those already registered in the system”.

This decision ensures no family affected by the 2019 earthquake is excluded from the reconstruction program due to missed deadlines. The municipality guarantees fair treatment and vital support for every verified case. /e.i/j.p/p.s./

In a post on social media platform X, Rama said authorities could not “leave affected residents alone with the damage to their property.”

At the same time, he added that taxpayers should not bear the cost of losses that ought to be covered by insurance.

Rama said the incident highlighted the importance of insuring homes against disasters, calling it a necessary measure.

“Families affected should feel reassured on this point,” he said, wishing them well and thanking firefighters and law enforcement for what he described as a heroic effort in saving lives.

This investment by the municipality of Elbasan comes as a response to the needs of students and teaching staff for more modern environments and higher teaching standards.

Prime Minister Edi Rama shared in the social media a view of the reconstruction work of this high school in Elbasan.

Rama said that thanks to this investment, around 600 students will have a new school with modern classrooms, laboratories, sports fields, a library and work rooms for teachers, while also implementing the energy efficiency system.

PM Rama took to the social media to share images of the upgraded venue, describing it as a modern addition to Albanian football infrastructure.

“The Vorë team will play home matches in the Superiore for the first time, a historic moment for the club and the town. This modern arena not only meets national league standards but also opens the possibility of hosting future UEFA club qualifying matches,” Rama said.

The stadium, now a modern facility, is part of an infrastructure upgrade resulting from cooperation between the Albanian Football Federation and the municipality of Vorë. Certified as a second-category stadium, the pitch meets UEFA standards and is prepared to host international fixtures according to relevant regulations.

The renovation project included construction of a new central stand, refurbishment of locker rooms, facilities for technical staff, and improvements to other functional areas.

The investment provides contemporary conditions and high standards, contributing directly to the development and growth of football in Albania.
