TIRANA, March 3/ATA/ “Ali Pasha Bridge”, in Tepelena, a precious asset left over from old times will be returned reconstructed to tourists.

Minister of Infrastructure and Energy Belinda Balluku announced today that the construction of the gazebo and the led lighting on this bridge have been completed.

The minister also said that the construction of the promenade, lighting and greenery on the river protection has been completed.

“Ali Pasha Bridge” or Dunavat Bridge was part of a large water supply complex commissioned in the early 19th century by Ali Pasha Tepelena.

The aqueduct supplied the castle cisterns with water from Mount Sopot, 10 km away.

Gjirokastra had no water service at the time and Ali Pasha realized the need for this facility. The aqueduct was largely destroyed in 1932, but this section in the Dunavat Quarter remained resisting time.

To get to the old bridge takes about 30 minutes from the center of Gjirokastra and about 15 minutes on foot from the path to the Dunavat neighborhood.

Tourists who choose to visit Gjirokastra also go to the historic bridge.

Gjirokastra has many natural, historical and cultural potentials, but what is important remains the investment in preserving these values that give shape to this city./p.s./
