TIRANA, February 20 /ATA/ Present-day Tirana is today several times cleaner than eight years ago, despite the development and increase in the number of residents and tourists.

During a roundtable with urban planners and architects, following the public debates “Tirana City Talks”, Mayor Erion Veliaj highlighted the improvement of air quality and he invited everyone to check it through the online applications such as Il Meteo or the Kopernik center.

However, the mayor emphasized that this transformation has come, in the first place, due to the change of mentality of the people in Tirana.

Further on, Veliaj spoke about the fast urban bus lines, which will be introduced in Tirana this summer season.

“We are ready to launch this summer what is called “Bus Rapid Transit”, the rapid bus line, with dedicated and non-stop lanes. So, in the same way we have done with the bicycle lines, we want to do the same with the buses. According to him, we shall promote into the new system the Kinostudio – Kombinat line, the Ring Road and New Tirana bus line. The forecast is that if the complete journey of the line took us 54 minutes, we want to reduce it into 24 minutes, and the speed of the buses from 9.5 km/h into 19.4 km/h. So double increase of the speed and cutting by half of the time. If we double the speed, if we double the time and if we go from a transport of 9,000 passengers per hour to 23,000 passengers per hour, we have significantly reduced traffic, especially in these three main arteries of the cities”, said Veliaj.

In the end, he also mentioned the concept of the ‘15 Minute City’ that is being developed in the two new neighborhoods of Tirana, “Kombinati” and “5 Maji”./p.s./

TIRANA, February 3 /ATA/ Health Minister Ogerta Manastirliu said that rapid testing has begun to be performed in 4 new points in the Medical Center in Tirana, bringing their number to 10. These points will also perform the classical PCR test.

The minister made the statement during an inspection at the Medical Center no.8. She said that it is a delicate situation, but we are building testing and tracing capacities

“After evaluating the progress of the first six points of testing in the community in Tirana, but also the epidemiological situation, we decided to add four more points. In the medical center no.8, in the medical center Kamza, in the medical center no.1 and in the medical center no. 3. So 10 test points have been opened in the community in Tirana, while in all of Albania there are 55 points of rapid testing “, said Manastirliu.

Manastirliu added that a great deal of work is being done in terms of detecting mutations or new variants of the virus.

Head of the Department of Epidemiology and Infectious Disease Control at Institute of Public Health, prof. Silva Bino, said that they are intensifying the work in the IPH laboratory and we are cooperating with other institutions abroad to identify new variants of the virus./p.s./
