TIRANA, November 3 /ATSH/ – Perched on the slopes of a mountain just a short drive from Tirana, the historic city of Kruja is one of Albania’s most popular destinations, drawing both locals and international visitors with its rich heritage, traditions, and scenic beauty.

Prime Minister Edi Rama shared in the social media images of Kruja, a destination that combines history, culture and nature-based tourism.

The medieval castle, the “Gjergj Kastrioti Skanderbeg” National Museum and the Ethnographic Museum are among the key sites that visitors choose to explore during their stay in the city.

One of the most distinctive attractions is the Old Bazaar of Kruja, which preserves its traditional architecture. In the artisan shops, tourists can find traditional products, souvenirs, carpets, folk costumes and handcrafted items.

Beyond its historical heritage, Kruja also offers opportunities for nature and mountain tourism. The landscapes stretching from the city toward the surrounding areas, along with panoramic views overlooking the western lowlands, make it an ideal destination for visitors looking to combine history with nature. Traditional gastronomy is another element that enhances the tourist experience. Characteristic Albanian dishes, local products, and hospitality are all part of what the city offers its visitors. /m.m/j.p/p.s./

TIRANA, November 3 /ATSH/ – Prime Minister Edi Rama stated today from Brussels that, unlike in other European countries, the violent protests in Albania resulted in a higher number of casualties among the police force.

During an interview with Maria Tadeo at the Euronews Enlargement Summit, while discussing the protests in the country, Rama noted that there were indeed violent protesters; however, unlike in any other countries that have faced such painful episodes, the party that suffered the most in Albania was the police.

When asked by journalist Maria Tadeo about the protests that have taken place over the last few months, Rama replied that, ” Albania has moved into a different phase. We’ve taken a historic step forward, shifting from meeting basic needs to managing high expectations. People’s standards have risen. The history of democratic nations proves that there comes a moment when you must address not just basic survival, but the high expectations of your citizens. Moreover, this is not unique to us—it is happening everywhere. The situation is even more complex for countries that fail to recognize this shift, as we face a new reality that challenges our shared world: the realm of social media. These are two distinct worlds. Having witnessed and experienced this firsthand, I see it as a force capable of creating a profoundly fractured encounter with reality,” said Rama.

The head of government noted that during protests in Albania, “With twice as many police officers injured as protesters, law enforcement suffered the most casualties during these protests. However, social media—and the TV stations that rely on it for news—portrayed the events in Albania as nothing but police brutality. The reality we face now is a generation growing up in a completely separate information bubble,” he emphasized. /e.i/a.f/r.e/p.s./

TIRANA, November 2 /ATSH/ – Prime Minister Edi Rama, together with Minister of Public Administration Adea Pirdeni, presented today the “Merit Ladder”, a new plan for the transformation and evaluation of the public administration.

In his remarks, the head of government emphasized that meritocracy should not merely be an obligation imposed on employees; rather, it must be a guarantee provided to them—ensuring that exceptional work is recognized and that competence remains a non-negotiable prerequisite for career advancement.

Rama also addressed the performance evaluation of public institution heads. He announced that, about 10 days ago, an assessment process began for the leaders of several institutions that provide direct services to citizens.

According to Rama, this process is not aimed simply at changing the individuals at the helm of these institutions. Instead, it seeks to identify concrete results and distinguish between leadership that drives improvement and leadership that remains stagnant in routine or negatively impacts the image of state institutions.

“Thirdly, accountability for the management of institutions. Ten days ago, the heads of several institutions that provide direct services to citizens underwent a performance evaluation process. This is by no means an unnatural move—nor is it a contest to see how many officials can be removed from their posts, or merely an exercise in swapping names at the helm of these institutions. Rather, it is an effort to examine—with a more critical eye—where leadership has yielded actual results, and where it has merely produced routine, or worse, damaged the image of state institutions,” said Rama.

According to him, where recurring problems and a lack of results are identified, there must be consequences; conversely, leaders who have demonstrated experience and achieved positive outcomes should be valued and supported.

Rama stated that the creation of the Ministry of Public Administration aims to provide a clear institutional home for the management of human capital in the Republic of Albania. /m.q/a.f/r.e/p.s./

TIRANA, October 31 /ATSH/ – Prime Minister Edi Rama unveiled new features in version 4.0 of the e-Albania application, introducing “Diella”—an AI-powered assistant that enables direct interaction with citizens and simplifies access to public services through voice commands and natural language conversation.

During a demonstration of these new capabilities, Rama showed that citizens can interact with Diella to obtain information and complete various procedures, bypassing the multi-step processes previously required on the platform.

“A new application for e-Albania, where citizens communicate directly with Diella—just as if they were speaking to another person,” said Rama.

The demonstration showcased how users can ask the assistant questions regarding various services, such as checking driver’s license penalty points or generating a pension certificate.

In the case of a pension certificate, Diella guides the citizen through a few questions—such as whether the document is intended for use domestically or abroad—before proceeding to generate it. As demonstrated, communication can also take place via a chat option, allowing users to request services using natural language—without the need for technical terminology.

Another innovation in version 4.0 focuses on making services more accessible for pensioners.

According to the presentation, 19 different services can be initiated through voice commands, following a simple interaction with the virtual assistant.

The demonstration also showcased the Face ID authentication feature, which is automatically activated during the user registration process.

Rama noted that these are not the only new features, with further developments expected in the coming months.

He encouraged the citizens to download the e-Albania app and utilize the new capabilities of “Diella,” which aims to simplify access to public services.

“Download the e-Albania app and have Diella entirely at your service—not just through the steps you’ve followed until now, but also via a simple command: ‘Diella, perform this service for me,'” the prime minister stated. According to the presentation, users can ask Diella to perform tasks even while continuing their daily activities—such as listening to music or conversing with people around them. /gj.m/j.p/p.s./

PM Rama shared in the social media images of a stone table set up in front of the Prime Minister’s Office, bearing the inscription “Dialogue.”

However, the protesters have so far refused the prime minister’s invitation, demanding his resignation and signaling that the protest will continue.

In previous statements, Rama has expressed his willingness to consider every proposal put forward by the students and lecturers, noting that the government is preparing a package of measures to address their needs.

According to the prime minister, the goal is to ensure that listening to citizens’ concerns renders into concrete decision-making and support.

Furthermore, according to Rama, the 2027 budget carries additional measures to support families, public services and students. Meanwhile, the prime minister has warned that anyone who attempts to incite urban terror or religious division, or to undermine the tradition of tolerance and harmony in Albania, will be held accountable. /gj.m/j.p/p.s./

TIRANA, October 28 /ATSH/ – Prime Minister Edi Rama responded today to the recent protests in Tirana, criticizing the violence, the threatening language and the protesters’ claim to speak on behalf of the entire population.

In a message addressed to Albanian citizens, Rama described the group of protesters as a collection of individuals, social groups and political parties that have no connection to one another.

“A hodgepodge of categories—individuals, social groups, and political parties—all gathered together, despite having no connection to each other. As has been the case before, foreign interests, illicit funds and organized crime are all mixed in,’” said Rama.

“On behalf of the people, we can no longer tolerate this system. We no longer want this government; we no longer accept this prime minister.’ This is a major—a very major—misunderstanding. Fortunately, no one is ‘the people’ except for the people themselves.” “And this hodgepodge has misunderstood everything, holding a segment of the public hostage—in the name of the entire population—through corrupt rhetoric and television screens that glorify violence and vulgarity,” Rama emphasized.

The prime minister pointed out that some of the protesters are attempting to capture public attention and present their own demands as the collective will of the citizens.

“They have no standing to speak on behalf of the people, nor do they possess any authorization to do so. The people speak for themselves—through their vote. No crowd—not even I, nor anyone else—can claim this; only the people themselves, the sovereign, grant the mandate to speak and make decisions in their name.” “This is the fundamental agreement of democracy—just as it is the right of every individual, within a democracy, to speak on their own behalf or on behalf of the group, organization, association, union, or community to which they belong; to demand what they believe is rightfully theirs; and to take to the streets, protest, or go on strike for what they believe they are entitled to,” said Rama.

The prime minister emphasized that the freedom to impose one’s views on others ends precisely where the right of those others to hold their own convictions begins. /p.s./
