TIRANA, April 23 /ATA/ / Prime Minister Edi Rama, in his address at a meeting with high school seniors who have completed their studies with highest honors, said that reform of higher education opens the university doors to those with high GPA and adoption of foreign university programs which translate into equivalent curricula and degrees.

“The door to universities seemed open, not to say torn apart, enabling anyone to start university studies although not all those who deserved to go unless they had a familiar last name or family ties with ruling parties could work their way up the system. There have been many family dramas because children who deserved to be admitted to certain branches were left out and while others who did not deserve were admitted,” said Rama.

Putting this type of drama to rest is not a miracle but a cornerstone,

We have entered a new phase because until yesterday we had a university system without any accredited universities and the mind-boggling number of universities that dug deep into the pockets of families and sold illusions in the form of diplomas that failed many people who have been left with no skills and employment opportunities.

“The higher education reform with the closure of fraudulent universities and international accreditation of universities has proved that we have the capacities to aim big,” he said.

PM went on saying that based on higher education plans foreign public universities will open their affiliates in Albania and integrate with our universities.
I believe that in 3-4 years to come we will have laied the groundwork for this new structure of higher education.
