TIRANA, Jan 6 /ATA/ Prime Minister Edi Rama stated on Thursday that the salaries of doctors will be based on the performance of the service with the patient and family members playing a crucial role through their feedback.

During the inauguration ceremony of the new children’s hospital at “Mother Teresa” university hospital centre, Prime Minister assured that the government will continue to increase the salary on a year to year basis to reach the target of 40% within this term.

Prime Minister went on saying that it is very important to give doctors and nurses the opportunity to get paid more, not only by increasing the basic salary, but also by giving the system the opportunity to apply differential pay rates.

“Meeting the conditions to give doctors optimal space to practice the profession is a strong measure of motivation to serve with dedication. Of courses, people are crucial in making a difference, but it is impossible to imagine that they will do their best when working in conditions way below the standards. Today we are in another phase, but we need to go beyond buildings and physical conditions, not only by increasing support for staff, but also by creating a new space for interaction between hospital staff and the state itself. They are heading into the critical phase of implementing the hospital autonomy reform, to enable a merit-based evaluation of the physicians bringing the merit to the fore. Those who work harder will get paid more and the process of managing the revenue available for hospitals will go through this new structure of functioning and involve the doctors in decision-making over many things, beyond their salary, such as supplies, the way of organization, interactions and investments. The base salary does not go down, instead it will go higher for those who contribute more to the system based on merit and ability. There will be a scoring system in place that will reveal the skills of all the medical staff. This year, salaries for white coats will increase, the salaries will increase on a year- to- year basis to reach a target of 40% raise,” said the Prime Minister.
According to Prime Minister, within this term, the investment in every part of the University Hospital Centre is set to be completed.

“Tirana University Hospital Centre will become the most modern complex in the region,” said Rama
Rama said that physical conditions have a crucial role not only in the performance of those working in these spaces, but also in the relationship between staff and patients.

A few years ago the situation in the country’s hospitals was critical, PM said putting it down to the dire working conditions where the medical service was provided.

“Today we are at a different stage,” he said.
