TIRANA, Aug 2 /ATA/ – By Maela Marini/ Prime Minister Edi Rama announced today that there is a 150% increase in the number of foreign tourists visiting Albania, compared to last year.
In a meeting with the residents of Himara, Rama hit back at claims about the decrease in the number of tourists.

“If I take Palasa and Ksamil, where the demand increased a lot, there was also an irrational surge in prices, but this is ultimately a matter of the market. You aim for it, then the market itself will react”, said Rama.
According to him, “the main issue is not this, but that the hotels are fully booked, while the number of restaurants has outgrown the number of beds”.

“Certain restaurants that have traditionally attracted clients before, at the moment they have increased prices, people have gone for other less popular but more reasonable offers. That’s the point,” he said.

“It is normal that it is competition, it is not a matter of spies and conspiracies. It is a fact. An article came out 2-3 days ago in “Corriere della Sera” saying that the prices of umbrellas and sunbeds have been slashed due to the competition in Albania. This is competition. Of course, they also wage such wars, especially today on social networks”, he added.

Also, Rama called even more ridiculous the whole theory that Kosovo Albanians don’t come anymore.
“Kosovo Albanians have actually come this year from January to July for more than a year. There are over 130,000 more vehicles that have entered Morina, if you calculate the number in July is greater than last year”, he added.
Speaking about tourism issues, Rama admitted that the beach policy needs to be
The prime minister emphasized that another criterion will be set for the contribution that each operator must give to the municipalities. “It’s not just the bed, but it’s also a special contribution called ‘city tax'”, he added.
Rama also said that more efforts will be made to clamp down on informality.
The Prime Minister expressed his conviction that Vangjel Tavo will build a dialogue with all the operators.
“Operators must understand that what they take from the city and hide from it does not help them to increase the quality of the offer. This does not happen if the city does not have the money to make everything more beautiful, so that there is more satisfaction with the service. Tourism is difficult, not easy, it is constant competition”, added Rama.
