TIRANA, Feb 14 /ATA/ Prime Minister Edi Rama participated on Tuesday in the “World Government Summit 2023” in Dubai, where he dwelt on the highly appreciated case of Albania, on the role of women in the government and society of the twentieth century.

In his address, Rama said that “I am sincerely humbled by this invitation and the opportunity to participate in such an impressive series of events as part of this platform and to have the opportunity to talk about our experience. I want to put it bluntly that all this was not about a model, but about the need to get things done. I have experienced first-hand what Margaret Thatcher said and it is true: if you want something said, ask a man; if you want something done, ask a woman.

“It’s another matter since Thatcher was the only woman in her cabinet, but I can prove from my first-hand experience that the chances for women to get things done are higher than the chances of men, I don’t think that this example should be taken as given for everyone, I’m just talking about the case of Albania,” said Rama.

“Regarding the number of women in our government that is actually the most exaggerated in the world, it is over 70%, but it is not that we wanted it to be at this level. It came naturally to us when I formed the first government, I wanted to form a 50% to 50% representation government. In the effort to pick the right person to get the job done in the proper way, I came to understand that there were more women than men who were qualified for the job. So it came naturally to me. I would be more open even in those cases that, as you say, are theatrical, because through this theatre part things become natural,” Rama said.

PM went on saying “suffice it to look at what is happening nowadays in Saudi Arabia despite all the discussions and criticisms that you will be faced with, as the discussions are unfolding in the Western world, but the developments are really impressive and of course in some way it should to start off with the theater part.”

Regarding the issue of women’s rights and empowerment, Rama said that “if you don’t put yourself in the shoes of the other person, you run the risk of overdoing it, even when you are pushed by good will and intentions.”

“Let us get back to the case in Saudi Arabia, from the distance and impossibility of putting things in perspective and in a context you happen to have a lot to say and be very critical, but when you put things in the context and perspective of what is happening then it is an incredible leap. In my humble opinion, the measuring unit of comparison should always be relative,” said Rama.
