In a message in three languages (Albanian, Italian and English), Rama wished Ambassador Soreca success in his new task, adding that Albania will always be his home.

“Thank you dear Luigi for your tireless work in Albania. Thank you, dear EU Ambassador for showing great respect for Albania. Thank you for everything dear Neapolitan friend. “Success in the new task ahead of you and never forget that Albania will always be your home,” said Rama.

Ambassador Luigi Soreca will take up an important position in the European External Action Service (EEAS) following his appointment by the High Representative / Vice President of the European Commission, Josep Borrell, as his Special Envoy for External Migration , with the rank of Ambassador.

In the context of the Russian aggression in Ukraine and the acute situation with the mass resettlement of people leaving Ukraine, Ambassador Soreca will join the team of High Representative Borrell at the EEAS in Brussels, from 1 April 2022.
His new appointment comes as an appreciation for his successful work in Albania as Head of the European Union Delegation since September 2018 and is based on his many years of experience in migration and security issues. During the migration crisis in the summer of 2016, Ambassador Soreca also served as the European Commission Special Envoy to Italy to launch the refugee resettlement process./m.m//a.a/sm/
