TIRANA, Dec 28 /ATA/ Prime Minister Edi Rama was on Tuesday in Laç, where he handed over the keys to 500 households moving into their new homes, two years after the devastating November 2019 earthquake.

Prime Minister said that the hope of a new life for 500 families has born out of the ruins and depths of despair that the devastating earthquake left behind.

Rama said that they will return to see in the New Year as a family, in beautiful and resilient homes that are part of a beautiful European neighborhood.

In his remarks at the ceremony, Rama said: “I have looked forward to this moment for 2 years on end just because this area was the hotspot of the large wound that the earthquake opened and one of the biggest things that had to be done as part of the reconstruction. This amazing complex of multi-residential buildings is a testimony to the exemplary work that has been done. “But there is much more than that.”

“We have rebuilt schools and continue to build schools and kindergartens. There are 11 new ones built up to the standards with a part funded by the state budget and the rest built through the EU donation. Here we are building a new neighborhood. 200 new apartments built with funds out of the state budget. We are building the hospital that I hope, despite the impediments, will be ready to serve all residents in the spring “, said Rama.

“Here is the most meaningful example that reconstruction has not been designed to serve the Socialists. Reconstruction targets all Albanian families affected by the earthquake, socialists, democrats”, said Rama.

The Ambassador of Turkey in Albania, Murat Ahmet Yörük, in his speech stated that, “the relations between Turkey and Albania are already at the level of strategic partnership, which are based on our deep historical, cultural and humanitarian ties”.

Having expressed his condolences to the families who lost their beloved ones to the November 26, 2019 earthquake, Yoruk said that, “on the order of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, in the aftermath of November 2019 earthquake in Albania all institutions of our state were mobilized to come to the aid of our friendly and brotherly people. President Erdogan lobbied the entire international community and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to raise funding for Albania.”

“Only one year after the ceremony of laying the foundations, the construction of 522 apartments units has completed as part of this gigantic project at an estimated cost of approximately EUR 42 million. So here we are in a new living space for a better and more quality life in the city of Laç, which consists of apartments, schools and commercial service units. This project has completed on record time, just as the hospital of Turkey-Albania friendship in Fier. “The fact that such a large and gigantic project was completed in such a short time, despite the pandemic restrictions, is one more reason for our nation and country to be proud of,” Yoruk said.
