TIRANA, Dec 27 /ATA/ – The Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Igli Hasani reiterated Friday Albania’s support for the European Union-mediated dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia, saying “advancing normalization dialogue with Belgrade represents an opportunity for Prishtina to advance on its path towards integration into the EU.”

Hasani also reaffirmed Albania’s strong support for Kosovo, describing it as a national priority.

He underlined that a proposal tabled by Prime Minister Edi Rama during a joint parliamentary session between Albania and Kosovo this month “is realistic and it represents an opportunity for Prishtina to advance towards the EU.

“As far as Prishtina-Belgrade dialogue is concerned, we understand that at certain points the dialogue runs into sand with both sides trading accusations. The Premier’s proposal is clear and realistic and it provides Prishtina the opportunity to advance towards EU integration. The proposal for Prishtina is to dialogue, to debate and deliver on EU membership obligations,” Hasani added.

TIRANA, June 20 /ATA/ – Restarting Kosovo-Serbia dialogue would imply also establishment of an Association of the Serb-majority Municipalities in the northern Kosovo, the Special US Envoy for the Western Balkans, Gabriel Escobar, and the EU Special Representative for the Belgrade-Pristina Dialogue and other Western Balkan regional issues, Miroslav Lajčák, said at a discussion on recent developments in the Western Balkans on Tuesday.

The two diplomats also praised as “serious” a proposal on establishment of the Serb Municipalities Association forwarded by the Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama to French President Emmanuel Macron, and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on June 8.

Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Gabriel Escobar and EU Special Representative for the Belgrade-Pristina Dialogue and Western Balkans Miroslav Lajčák issued these statements during a meeting at the Atlantic Council to discuss recent developments in the region, the Belgrade-Pristina Dialogue, US-EU cooperation in the region, and strategies to ensure the implementation of the Ohrid and Brussels agreements.

Escobar also rejected claims that Washington is recently favoring Serbia over Kosovo, whereas Lajčák stated that both countries would face consequences if refusing to deescalate situation.

PRISTINA, June 10 /ATA/ – Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti has declined to comment on a proposal forwarded by the Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama on creation of an Association of the Serb-majority Municipalities in the country’s north.

Asked by reporters about the plan during an event, marking the anniversary of Prizren Albanian League on Saturday, Kosovo government head refused to make any comment.

“As you see it for yourself, the League is alive and strong. Together with me is also Mikele from Frashineto, Calabria. The village of Frashineto is home to an Albanian-Arbresh community and Mikele is one of them and I invite you to ask him about the Albanian League of Prizren. The League is alive, Kurti said.

PM Edi Rama presented this week a proposal to France and Germany for the establishment of Kosovo’s Association of Serb-Majority Municipalities in a bid to break the deadlock between Pristina and Belgrade on the issue.
