TIRANA, Nov  3 /ATA/ Prime Minister Edi Rama described on Thursday the new Franco-German plan that has been offered to Kosovo and Serbia as a great opportunity, not only for the two countries, but also for the region and Europe itself.

During the joint press conference with the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen and Chancellor Olaf Scholz, in Berlin, Rama said that the time has come to see it as an important contribution to the European security architecture.

“The new Franco-German plan offered to Kosovo and Serbia is an excellent opportunity, not only for these two countries, but also for the region and Europe. I strongly hope that both sides will take it seriously and will understand that the time has come to view it as an important contribution to the entire European security architecture,” he said.

Germany and France have recently tabled an agreement to normalize the dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia.

Chancellor Scholz said that bilateral conflicts in the Western Balkans must be resolved.

“As for Serbia and Kosovo, the same applies to them, an agreement must be reached. We and the French government, the European Commission, are doing our best to make this happen. We are very actively involved in talks with both parties. We hope that very soon we will see a process where both governments will move forward and come to an understanding,” said the German Chancellor.

Meanwhile, the president of the EC, Ursula von der Leyen, has confirmed the Franco-German proposal.

Von der Leyen said that this is something that requires patience and a lot of effort.

“We hope that we will see a positive result any time soon,” she said.
