TIRANA, July 11 /ATA/ During the meeting with mayors focused on local government performance as part of the “Albania 2030” vision for the European Union, Prime Minister Edi Rama also addressed the topic of demolishing illegal buildings in Theth.
Rama highlighted that in Theth, in the months leading up to and during the election period, there was a surge in illegal construction activity driven by preparations for the upcoming tourist season.

Prime Minister Rama remarked that “approximately 40 complaints, not just one, have been submitted by the State Police concerning these constructions. The police have taken action by reporting the illegal buildings to the Prosecutor’s Office. However, it was revealed that in a particularly blatant case—where not just a single structure but an entire tourist village was built in the heart of Theth—a prosecutor named Gjeli chose not to proceed with the investigation.”

Rama went on to say that the prosecutor chose to ignore the gravity of the issue and instead composed a philosophical argument defending the innocence of illegal construction.

“Illegal construction in the Republic of Albania is a criminal offense, and undertaking such activities in a protected area like Theth constitutes an even graver crime,” Rama stressed.

On the other hand, Rama continued, the Territorial Protection Inspectorate has begun taking action.
