TIRANA, Dec 22 /ATA/ – By Maela Marini/ Prime Minister Edi Rama stated on Thursday in parliament that the law on medals reintroduces Albania to the system of European countries and separates it from communism.

Prime Minister added that Albania is 75 years late in voting this law.

“This law separates the country from the Yugoslav, Soviet, Chinese communism of all those years that came along with the frenzy of decorations, tins, medals. It introduces to the system alongside all other countries in the region and in Europe that have the same system and rules in place. The tragedy that happened to us, that we managed to decorate the founder of the Albanian state, has not happened to anyone. The former President of the Republic posthumously decorated Ismail Qemali,” said Rama.
Rama emphasized that Albania is the only country that awards posthumously.

“Posthumous award is typical of Albanian style, democracy, an unimaginable methodology, a provincial condescension unprecedented in the history of the planet. A soldier fallen in war at that the time we live together, definitely makes sense to be posthumously awarded, a man who sacrifices himself to save others in an act of heroism today, definitely yes. But not a man who died 100 years ago,” said Rama.

According to him, “with this law, Albania joins the mosaic of European states.”

Prime Minister emphasized that over 500 medals were awarded within one term of office by a President without any reference.

Rama emphasized that this project uproots communism from the field of state orders and medals.

“The enthusiastic supporters of decommunization in this parliament should have embraced this project with the greatest zeal because it is a final break with communism, but not only do they not embrace it with eagerness, but oppose it with eagerness,” said Rama.
