“The removal of the Mayor of Tirana from his position to be locked up without trial, leaving an entire capital city without the leader who has been entrusted with the responsibility by a quarter of a million voters, is an extremely significant event that I cannot pass off with the five-year formula ‘no comment,'” said Rama.
Rama emphasized that he will no longer keep his opinions to himself when he deems it necessary to share them with the public, in all cases when justice will do its job.
“Today, my opinion is this: The new justice system has now entered a phase where it has gained all the necessary confidence, and our support will continue unwavering. However, there is no reason why we should not also express critical opinions, which at this stage are essential to help the consolidation of an independent justice system,” added Rama.
The Prime Minister stated that the aim of the criticisms should be to foster a justice system that is not only independent, able to investigate and take action against anyone it finds necessary, but also one that upholds flawless democratic and European standards.
“Especially when, for five years in our assembly, everyone has been talking endlessly about anyone who parades in front of the cameras warned by SPAK, and only we, the Socialist Party, the guarantor of the Justice Reform, the party governing the country, remain silent. Our silence has undoubtedly helped the new justice institutions up to this point,” added Rama.
