TIRANA, Nov 2 /ATA/ Prime Minister Edi Rama reacted Wednesday on social media over the statements of the British Home Secretary.

Rama stated that “Great Britain must fight criminal gangs of all nationalities and stop discriminating against Albanians to excuse the failures of its policies.”

The Prime Minister went on saying that “Albania is not a rich country and has been a victim of empires for a very long time, we have never had one of our own.”

“We have a duty to combat crime in the country and we are doing this with resoluteness, while cooperating closely with others. Ready to work more closely with the UK, but the facts are important. So is the mutual respect,” the Prime Minister writes.

Rama emphasized that “Albania is a NATO country and is negotiating its membership in the EU.”

“It is also a safe country of origin. When Germany had a similar problem, it tightened its systems. Great Britain can and should do the same rather than responding with a rhetoric of crime that ends up punishing the innocent,” he said.

The Prime Minister recalled that 70% of the 140,000 Albanians who moved to Great Britain lived in Italy and Greece.

“1,200 of them are business people. Albanians in the UK work hard and pay taxes. The UK must fight criminal gangs of all nationalities and stop discriminating against Albanians to justify its policy failures. Targeting Albanians (as some shamefully did when they fought for Brexit) as the root cause of Britain’s crime and border problems makes for easy rhetoric but downplays the hard facts. Insanity Is Doing the Same Thing Over and Over Again and Expecting Different Results (ask Einstein!)”, writes Rama.
