TIRANA, April 22 /ATA/-By Maela Marini/ Prime Minister Edi Rama, also the chairman of the Socialist Party, stated today that the main ambitious objective of this majority is to raise the minimum pension to 200 euros and the average pension to 400 euros.
In a meeting with pensioners in Gjirokastër, Rama stated that these two targets have been set based on the country’s economic growth.

He stated that the government is adopting the right approach to ensure a sustainable pension system, and so far, contributions have been steadily and consistently increasing.

“We’ve increased the number of contributors by 300,000. Insurance is no longer something people overlook, as it was in the past. This is how we’ll ensure a minimum pension of 200 euros, regardless of whether someone has paid contributions. The minimum pension will be 200 euros, and for those who are insured, our goal is to reach an average pension of 400 euros,” said Rama.

He said that the government’s two main objectives have been supported by international expertise.

“We’ve approached this from all angles. We’ve received expertise from all directions, including institutions like the World Bank, independent international experts, and our economic advisor, who was the head of Angela Merkel’s economic group for 10 years. We also consulted with the professor who leads the Center for International Development at Harvard,” added Rama.

According to him, the main objective set is ambitious and not easy for us, but every effort will be made to achieve it.
“What others are telling you is simply a road to disaster. Either they don’t care about heading down that path, and you know that well, or they have no idea what they’re talking about—let anyone believe it, because we will increase the pensions that much, to harness votes and get into parliament,” said Rama.
