TIRANA, July 3 /ATA/ Prime Minister Edi Rama emphasized on Sunday that “I welcome as an expression of freedom the attack of some who, in the name of freedom of the media, seek legitimacy for the freedom to violate ethical norms even in my press conferences, because outside them this freedom is already legitimate! But the request cannot be fulfilled.”

In a posting on social networks, for the expulsion of the journalist from his press conferences for three consecutive months, Rama says that “we stopped short of the attempt to regulate the freedom of defamation and insult, which in the age of social media has taken on appalling proportions! We didn’t do it out of fear or pressure, but as a constructive response to the demand of the media community for self-regulation.”
“Where is the self-regulation? Anywhy, we will hopelessly wait for it to come! But in the meantime, legitimizing the freedom to violate ethical norms face to face in my presence is unlikely to become a reality.

I have changed my approach a long time ago, not because the trash media have disappeared, but because I have reacted to criticism. Yet, nothing has changed on the other hand, on the contrary, although no journalist or media outlet has been bothered by this government, and although the availability for questions and requests for information has been at the most, slanders have increased and backsliding has aggravated.

“In conclusion: Spread slander, lies, write and speak Albanian as badly as you want, because no one will tell you “shut up,” but when you come to ask me questions do not expect to publicly exercise your freedom of repeatedly breaching ethics and to be welcome yet again,” said Rama.
