TIRANA, Feb 28 /ATA/ – By Maela Marini/ Prime Minister Edi Rama attended on Monday the EBRD summit on investments in the Western Balkans, which is taking place in London, where he stated that “Albania is a paradise for tourism and investment in tourism.”

Rama expressed his conviction that investing in Albania, but also in other countries of the region is more than investing in one country.

“It’s investing in a region with incredible, yet untapped potential. I believe that the Western Balkans is the new frontier of investment in Europe, due to the fact that this destination has been off limits for many years. This is thanks to the fact that all countries in the region are improving and are doing their best to do more,” said Rama.

Prime Minister stressed that “Albania is at a new phase and it is very clear that foreigners see Albania as a paradise for tourism and investment in tourism.”

Rama stressed that “even during the worst times of the pandemic, Albania has seen a very significant growth of tourism industry.”

Regarding tourism, Rama said that this sector is closely linked with infrastructure, so he singled out the Blue Corridor, part of the European network and the Berlin Process. We will encourage its implementation in terms of the highway and on the same corridor we will have the railway that has already been approved,” said Rama.

Rama said that “Albania is endowed with seas, mountains and lakes. Actually, there are plenty of opportunities out there, although we are used to exploring the coast and we have not yet developed anything of significant value in terms of mountain tourism.”

The Prime Minister cited the measures to protect the Vjosa River, the last wild river in Europe.
“We drew up a plan to transform the Vjosa, not only as it is today in a fully protected natural area, but to make it a National Park, which means a lot. It is an extraordinary space and has an extraordinary potential to develop this type of tourism, ” said Rama.

Also, the Prime Minister noted that “we are in the process of getting through parliament, a ground-breaking legislation for start-ups, which will make Albania the most extraordinary and liberal country not only in the region, but in the whole world.”
