TIRANA, Feb 10 /ATA/- Prime Minister Edi Rama stated on Saturday that “the arrival of a Secretary of State in these turbulent times for the world, as well as the choice to visit our region, stopping right in our capital, is of great significance for Albania.”

In a post on his social media account, Rama spoke about the visit of the US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, to Tirana.

“As we are gearing up to welcome our precious friend, I want to reiterate Albania’s full commitment to the strategic partnership with the United States. Secretary Blinken will see in Tirana an allied country committed to peace, democratic stability and comprehensive cooperation in our region. Albania has extended the hand of friendship to everyone in the region and supports without any reservations the efforts of the European Union and the United States for the normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia, as an indisputable strategic key to the security, development and well-being of the community of our peoples in the heart of Europe, where the past riddled with tragedies, conflicts and backwardness, must once and for all give way to the future full of opportunities, partnerships and development,” Rama says.

PM adds that “he will find a dedicated NATO country, a member of the Euro-Atlantic Alliance willing to carry on wide-ranging investments to increase defense capabilities, in close cooperation with the United States. Albania is always ready to engage new troops and resources, in the framework of the collective commitment of all member countries to strengthen NATO, in defense of the inalienable values that represent the very reason for the existence of our democratic community. Our country stands side by side with the United States in the fight against terrorism and in opposing any semblance of totalitarianism, and the Secretary of State will find Albania unequivocally determined to support the fight of friendly Ukraine for its freedom and survival.”

“Secretary Blinken will see an Albania grateful for the irreplaceable friendship and unreserved support of the United States on the path of our radical transformation, and especially at this time he will find an Albania thankful for the precious partnership of the United States in the historic reformation of the system of justice, where the government that I have the privilege to run remains resolutely the guarantor of the independence of the new justice, in the great effort to stamp out the old culture of impunity. The restoration of public confidence in justice, thanks to some meaningful anti-corruption measures at the top levels, is a first meaningful achievement on the new path of democratic state-building, where the establishment of rule of law constitutes the basic condition for the epochal break with the past of inequality before law in this country spanning more than a hundred years. In order to move ahead on this very challenging path, the continuous assistance of the United States in increasing and strengthening our capacities is, without a doubt, one of the inalienable conditions of this crucial phase for the irreversible consolidation of the rule of law and for making up for the time lost in the recent past, for Albania’s European Union integration,” Prime Minister Rama said.

Also, Rama adds that “The Secretary of State will find a working Albania, with continuous economic growth and a tangible disruptive drive in the public and private sectors, but also fully aware about the still numerous gaps and shortcomings, which must be addressed through the deepening of reforms that guarantee good governance at every level, empower local communities, promote gender equality, stimulate stakeholders, accelerate modernization, ensure sustainable development.”

“Therefore, Secretary Blinken will also find in Albania our invitation that he and the American side as a whole encourage the companies of the friendly country to invest in the strategic sectors of the Albanian economy, and also encourage their fellow citizens to visit Touristic Albania, which has now deservedly joined the main league of Mediterranean tourism. Welcome Mr. Secretary! The home of the Albanian is of God and friend. Your friendship honors us!” Prime Minister Rama concludes his post.
