The Public Procurement Agency has also published the tender announcement from Albanian Railways, seeking a company to conduct the study and prepare the final design for the rehabilitation of the existing Rrogozhinë-Vlorë railway line, as well as the study and preparation of the final design for connecting the Vlora airport railway line to the existing railway network.

Through this, the government aims to establish a functional and sustainable railway connection, which will enable an integrated transportation experience for both local and foreign citizens.

This connection aims to provide a combined service of rail and air transport, enabling faster, safer, and more sustainable access for passengers to the airport.

The implementation of this project is expected to significantly improve travel comfort and convenience, providing citizens and tourists with the opportunity to use a combined transportation system that helps reduce the use of road transport and environmental pollution.

Also, one of the main objectives is to increase passenger movement safety by reducing the risk of accidents and enhancing transportation standards across the region.

This connection will play a vital role in the economic development of the area and contribute to increased access to public services, while better integrating Vlora into the overall national and international transportation network.

The use of rail transport will result in a notable reduction in road traffic, leading to fewer traffic accidents and a positive effect on reducing air pollution from fumes and gases.

The expected speed of travel is up to 120 km/h, while the line category will be D-4 according to UIC standards, with a permitted axle load of 22.5 tons/axle and a longitudinal load of 8 tons/meter.

The allocated budget is 95 million euros, and the deadline for submitting bids is January 27, 2025.

Currently, the Albanian government is reconstructing the Tirana-Durres railway line and constructing a connection between this line and the Tirana International Airport.
