TIRANA, April 23 /ATA/ – Prime Minister Edi Rama said on Tuesday evening that a documentary by the Report TV program aired on RAI 3 concerning the Italy-Albania agreement on immigration was a thin line of the balance between the lie and the truth.

In an interview with the Top Channel TV, PM Rama said that RAI 3 made the Secretary General of the Council of Minister, Engjëll Agaçi, a victim out of an exemplary aggression.

Rama called RAI 3 program scandalous and a big lie, adding that the Secretary General of the Council of Ministers has announced plans to submit a defamation lawsuit to the Italian judiciary.

“According to the report, the Secretary General of the Council of Ministers, who is an institutional figure and who is the victim of an exemplary aggression, has allegedly refused to answer, but in the meantime he has announced that a defamation lawsuit will be submitted to the Italian court and the Italian criminal code is a very tough on defamation. He has provided answers to every question forwarding them to the same address the questions came from and within the deadline set by the sender in the most unimaginable possible way, “ PM Rama stated.

The government head said that “the TV program reminds you of the stories and shows that were aired at the time when Albanian nationals were portrayed by the Italian media outlets as criminals, traffickers, or prostitutes and Albania was home to murderers and all the evils of the world.”

Earlier today, PM Rama promptly rejected a report published by the Italian newspaper “La Repubblica” over an alleged “furious” phone call with the director of RAI 3 concerning the “Report” program.

“Rather than a tense exchange, the communication with the RAI director merely involved a request for a dialogue regarding the program’s perceived scandalously slanderous content,” PM Rama clarified in a statement.

The Italian media outlet reacted following Rama’s clarification, revising their reporting, acknowledging the need for correction and removing the alleged “furious phone call” reference from its revised article.

RAI confirmed Prime Minister Rama’s account, emphasizing that his communication with the RAI director was not confrontational but rather a request to be heard.
