Prime Minister Edi Rama shared today in the social media images from this construction site, where there have currently been completed 10.5 kilometers in Lot 2.

Rama stated that this segment has been completed with all road safety parameters with vertical/horizontal signage, guardrail and sidewalks.

Meanwhile, the prime minister emphasized that the works are continuing in all 3 lots with the aim of fully completing this long-awaited project.

The entire financing for construction of three lots of the Qukës-Qafë Plloça road amounts to 255.8 million USD.

This project improves the routing parameters and makes it possible to access the traffic that passes between Corridor 8 from Tirana-Elbasan road with the southeast part, as well as cuts the travel distances with the border crossing point of Kapshtica, the city of Korça and beyond.

Also, the road eases traffic, affects the development of agriculture in the rural area of Mokra and the surrounding villages, as well as shortens the time for transporting goods from the port of Durrës to the border crossing point of Kapshtica.

Meanwhile, the work on the construction of the third lot of Qukës-Qafë Plloça road is expected to be completed by the end of 2025. /m.m/p.s./

Rama emphasized that this road axis will open a new economic and social perspective for the local inhabitants of this area.

“At Qukës – Qafë Plloçë construction site, the works are going ahead at an intensive pace for building of this long=awaited road axis which leads to another part of the enchanting Albania for the tourism industry and opens new economic and social perspective for the local residents”, said PM Rama.

The road is 43.3 km long; the first 10 km go along the Shkumbini River and further continues to Mokra Highlands, known as an area of high mountains. Therefore, the road will have also support walls, 20 bridges and viaducts and a tunnel 375 m long.

The road will have a width of 12 m, of which 2 lanes with a width of 3.75 m each (7.5 m total), 2 paved embankments with a width of 1.5 m each and 2 unpaved embankments with a width of 1 m each./p.s./

Infrastructure Minister Belinda Balluku stated today that the financing for the third lot of the road has already been provided by the Saudi Fund, while negotiations are underway with the Islamic Bank for the provision of loans for two more lots.

“We have resumed the loan application for the first and second lot. The third lot already has the fund provided through the loan with the Saudi Fund. The work will begin immediately. Meanwhile, for the first and second lot, we are in open negotiations with the Islamic Bank and I believe that it will be closed very soon “, said the minister from Korça.

According to Balluku, Qukës – Qafë-Plloçë is a very important road.

“In recent days, we have talked about all the revitalization that we want to do in transport, not only in roads, but also in the railway system, to revitalize an old dream, that of Corridor 8 and where Korça is an active part” , she said.

The road Qukës – Qafë-Plloçë is part of Corridor VIII. This road has a special significance for development of the country as it connects Korça with Tirana, the main engine of the country’s development with its east development pole. /a.a/r.e/p.s./
