Prime Minister Edi Rama took to the social media on Thursday to share ongoing work under a project designed to expand the facility’s capacities and provide decent health care service for young mothers and newborns in a completely new space by preserving the building’s existing architecture, but also by employing state-of-the-art technology and meeting highest European standards.

The government head said that “completion of the first phase for reconstruction of the new Queen Geraldine Maternity Hospital clears the way to the investment in reconstruction of the main building, which will be transformed by preserving its historic architecture to ensure highest care standards for mothers and the newborns.”

The investment in upgrading the Queen Geraldine Maternity Hospital will boost hospital capacities and it will also house the preterm birth centre, designed for the very first time for a maternity hospital in Albania.

The project on reconstruction and expansion of the Queen Geraldine maternity hospital includes three components: construction of a new three-storey building and a basement; complete reconstruction of the historic building that will preserve the details of the unique architecture on its facade, but also the building’s interior; expansion of the existing obstetric facility.
