TIRANA, Oct 10 /ATA/ Tourism in Himara continues into the autumn, with visitors choosing to explore the area’s traditional villages and enjoy the coastal landscapes of southern Albania.

Himara Mayor Vangjel Tavo told the Albanian Telegraphic Agency (ATA) today that tourism in the area continues beyond the end of the summer season, demonstrating its potential to attract visitors throughout the year.

One of the destinations that continues to welcome visitors is the village of Qeparo, where both Albanian and foreign tourists, including first-time visitors and those returning, breath life into the area even in October.
Walks through Qeparo are driven by the curiosity to discover what lies beyond each turn and the pleasure of taking in views that open up towards the sea.

“Qeparo, with its characteristic alleyways, traditional architecture and landscapes intertwined with the sea, is one of the Albanian Riviera’s destinations that attracts visitors in every season,” Tavo said.

Himara’s mayor noted that “Himara is seeing an increase in visitor numbers during autumn, but the town and its villages have considerable potential for year-round tourism. In addition to beaches and the sea, which remain among the main attractions during summer, the area offers opportunities for cultural, historical, nature-based and gastronomic tourism in every season.”

Traditional villages such as Qeparo, Vuno, Dhërmi and Pilur, with their distinctive architecture, history, traditions and hospitality, have significant potential to attract visitors beyond the summer season.
Strolling through old alleyways, exploring mountain landscapes and nature trails, sampling local cuisine and discovering the area’s culture offer tourists unique experiences throughout the year.

“Our aim is to establish Himara as a year-round destination rather than one associated solely with summer tourism. Extending the tourist season creates new opportunities for the local economy, supports businesses and agritourism, and generates further employment prospects while promoting sustainable development for the community,” Tavo said.

“Himara and its villages are a true treasure. Nowhere else do the sea and mountains come together quite as they do here. Visitors can enjoy the beaches and the Ionian coastline, rocky formations and natural caves, historic fortresses such as Himara Castle, Porto Palermo Castle and Borsh Castle, numerous churches of historical and cultural significance, as well as canyons and mountain trails for adventure tourism.”
