TIRANA, Sept 16 /ATA/- Retail trade volume in Albania rose significantly in the second quarter of 2025, driven by higher demand for basic goods, food and beverages, increased interest in non-essential items, and a sharp rise in fuel consumption, official data showed on Tuesday.

According to the National Institute of Statistics (INSTAT), the volume of retail sales – which reflects real sales excluding the impact of price changes – grew by 6.2% in Q2 2025 compared to the same quarter last year.

On a quarterly basis, retail sales volume increased by 1.2% from Q1 2025.

When excluding fuel sales, retail trade volume still recorded an annual increase of 4.9%, suggesting that underlying consumer demand remains strong across other sectors as well.

Sales of hydrocarbons in specialized retail units saw a notable 10.1% year-on-year increase, indicating a significant uptick in fuel consumption.

The strongest contribution to the overall 6.2% annual growth came from non-food products, both in specialized and non-specialized outlets, which added 2.2 percentage points. The food, beverages, and tobacco segment contributed 1.5 percentage points to the overall rise.
