TIRANA, Aug 11 /ATA/ – Albanian authorities are continuing a nationwide drive to clear public spaces of illegally occupied areas such as pavements and community facilities.

Prime Minister Edi Rama took to the social media on Monday to post footage showing private businesses dismantling unlicensed structures occupying public land, which he said were now being returned to residents.

The initiative is part of the government’s “Urban Renaissance 2.0” programme.

The government head said a National Regulation is being drafted to define by law which public spaces may be used by businesses.

Officials say the campaign aims to improve service quality and business operations in line with national hospitality standards, not only in tourist areas but across the country.

The clearance operation began in early July and will remain a priority for both local and central authorities, the government says.
