TIRANA, Nov 6 /ATA/-By Maela Marini/ Prime Minister Edi Rama honored today Professor Hubert Hasenauer, Rector of BOKU University in Austria, with the Star of Public Recognition.

During the ceremony held at the Prime Minister’s office, Rama commended Hasenauer’s remarkable contribution and dedication to transforming the Agricultural University of Tirana following the BOKU Vienna model, advancing the path toward mutual recognition of diplomas between the two institutions.

“I believe that today’s event is not merely a ceremony honoring an individual who fully deserves this recognition, but also a symbolic moment that highlights the connection between the long-standing and rich Austrian and Albanian traditions, united in a shared spiral of values, knowledge, and dedication,” Rama stated.
The Prime Minister emphasized that Professor Hasenauer today joins a constellation of stars from Austria that have shone over the sky of Albania.
“This is a rare constellation, made up of individuals who have contributed to our culture, language, identity, and knowledge. Professor Hasenauer is the latest in a long chain that stretches back centuries to Vienna, where the Albanian language was first heard,” Rama said.
Rama emphasized that Professor Hasenauer is not the first Austrian to be honored in Albania, citing other notable figures who have contributed to bilateral relations.
Rama noted that Hasenauer joins a lineage of highly respected figures whose names are firmly embedded in Albania’s history, adding that the professor’s legacy will likewise endure. He also highlighted other prominent Albanians, such as actor Aleksandër Moisiu, whose contributions remain rooted in Austria’s theatrical heritage.

The Prime Minister underscored that Austria has never regarded Albania as a peripheral country, but rather as a light that must never be allowed to fade.

“Today, a calm and dedicated figure joins the constellation of individuals who have shaped our shared history—a scholar and leader who exemplifies the strength of knowledge and the value of integrity. Though unassuming in manner, he has made a lasting impact as both a rector and a steadfast administrator,” Prime Minister Rama remarked.

The Prime Minister praised Professor Hasenauer, noting that he came to Albania not to lecture on reform or offer advice, but to approach the Agricultural University grounds as a spiritual space, lending a hand in planting a new tree for this new century, Rama said.
Rama noted that, thanks to Professor Hasenauer’s efforts, the Agricultural University of Tirana has been revitalized—not only in terms of hope but also in ambition, motivation, and passion. “Most importantly, he has restored confidence in an academic body which, although individually highly capable, had struggled to unite and function as a cohesive collective,” he added.

“Today, you join the long line of jewels in the necklace of Albania-Austria friendship, another gem in the crown of this enduring bond. In the future, your name will stand alongside others in this community of spirits, strengthened by your direct contribution. What unites all the Austrians whose names are written in the pages of our country’s history—and what links Professor Hasenauer to them—is simple: none came to Albania to take; all remained loyal to give,” Rama added.

Rama said the Public Recognition Star is bestowed upon Professor Hasenauer as part of a select group of friends and allies of Albania, jokingly adding that he should prepare for an Albanian passport.
