Addressing lawmakers at a regular plenary session of parliament, the main opposition Democratic Party leader said recent protests led by young people were aimed at protecting the country’s future, environment and cultural heritage, and argued that their concerns should take precedence over other parliamentary business.

“I urgently request a motion for debate with the Prime Minister. Parliament should place on its agenda the protesters’ demands, which are entirely legitimate,” Berisha said.

DP leader said ignoring the protesters would be a mistake and called on parliament to focus on the issues they have raised.

Berisha also urged parliamentary speaker Niko Peleshi to place the protesters’ demands and related developments at the centre of parliamentary agenda.
