The Republican Guard lined up in front of the podium while deputies hurled objects at the Assembly Speaker Elisa Spiropali.

The Parliament Speaker, Elisa Spiropali, proceeded with the session by announcing the vacancy created after Salianji’s arrest on charges of false reporting in the “Babalja” case.

Regarding the execution order of the criminal decision for MP Salianji, Spiropali stated that the Assembly’s regulation does not provide for the meeting of the Council for Regulations, Mandates, and Immunities when a deputy’s mandate is terminated owing to final court decision.

After the announcement of the vacancy, the Assembly notified the Central Election Commission (CEC) for the replacement of the deputy.

Following the confrontation and efforts to block the podium, opposition deputies took the chairs outside the Assembly hall and set them on fire.

The flames briefly got out of control, threatening the entrance of the parliament. The Guard extinguished the fire right away.

After setting the chairs on fire, the opposition deputies returned to the session. Spiropali urged opposition deputies to refrain from acts of violence. She stated that the Assembly is independent from court decisions.
The Chairman of the SP Parliamentary Group, Niko Peleshi, called for the session to be interrupted, a request that was approved by the Speaker, who announced a 10-minute break.
