TIRANA, Jan 22 /ATA/ The Prosecutor’s Office of Tirana announces that it has requested the expertise of specialized foreign authorities to carry out the examination of the evidence, in the investigation of January 21 case, where during a protest in Tirana, near the seat of the Council of Ministers, four protesters: Ziver Veizi, Faik Myrtaj, Hekuran Deda and Aleks Nika were gunned down.

According to the press release, the investigative group has decided to conduct an examination of the evidence collected during the search of the scene, addressing the competent foreign authorities.

“Amid the high interest of various media, the Prosecutor’s Office at the First Instance Court of the General Jurisdiction of Tirana is conducting investigative actions as part of criminal proceedings No. 285 of 2011, (resumed), the event that happened on 21.01.2011, in which the citizens Ziver Veizi, Faik Myrtaj, Hekuran Deda and Aleks Nika were gunned down,” the Prosecutor’s Office of Tirana says.

“As part of the investigations carried out by the judicial police, all necessary investigative actions were carried out, but it was not possible to identify who killed the citizens Aleks Nika and Hekuran Deda, as well as who injured the citizens Fatos Mahmutaj , Sokrat Gode, Erald Bisha, Artes Dybeli, Ilia Qesko and Ilia Papa. After all investigative actions were exhausted and the perpetrator of the criminal offense is not known yet, by decision dated 28.02.2020, the Prosecutors of the case decided to put on hold the investigations and pass the acts of criminal proceedings no. 285, of the year 2011, for further follow-up to the Tirana Local Police Directorate,” the press release reads.

“On 02.04.2021, it was decided to resume the suspended investigations and carry out investigative actions in order to uncover the perpetrator of the murder of the citizen Aleks Nika, as well as Hekuran Deda, for whom the Court of the Judicial District of Tirana through decision No. 100, on 07.02.2013, acquitted the defendant Agim Llupo, of the charges of committing deliberate murder of two or more persons,” resulting in the death of Hekuran Deda, “the press release says.
“In order to administer the material evidence, the audio tape, in accordance with the legal procedural requirements, the citizen Artan Hoxha, journalist by profession, was interviewed, as well as the family members of the victim Aleks Nika, who, according to the citizen Artan Hoxha, possess the audio materials. But in the statements given by them, it is evident that this material would not be handed over as part of the investigations conducted by the Prosecutor’s Office at the Court of First Instance of the General Jurisdiction in Tirana, but to the Special Anticorruption Structure, as part of their investigation.”
“As part of investigations carried out by the prosecutor, it has been decided to evaluate and examine the evidence seized during the search of the scene and the examination of the victim, addressing the competent foreign authorities, which were also asked to show confidentiality given the sensitivity and the nature of the case. Given the guarantees of a process that is under investigation, we inform you that during the investigations, the acts of the European Court for Human Rights, which are related to this criminal proceeding, will be regarded,” the press release of Prosecutor’s Office of Tirana concludes.
