TIRANA, October 14 /ATA/ – The National Territorial Council has approved construction of the “Kavaja Bazaar” project, a modern structure in the city center designed to introduce a new architectural concept to the urban landscape.

Taulant Balla, the Socialist Party’s political leader for Tirana region shared the news and a view of the project designed by the renowned French architect Manuelle Gautrand.

According to Balla, the modern structure in the center of Kavaja aims to bring a fresh architectural concept to the urban space.

This impressive project covers 3,130 m² with a 1,405 m² footprint, standing as a single-story structure with a peak height of 18.95 meters. Its most captivating element is the roof—two elegant arches joined by an asymmetrical ridge, giving the building a truly unique and memorable silhouette.

The new Kavaja Bazaar project represents a significant intervention in the city center, featuring a contemporary architectural design created by a prominent French architect. /m.m/j.p/p.s./

TIRANA, Oct. 8 /ATA/ – Tirana is set to add another underground public car park, with recreational and sports facilities planned above ground, the city municipality said on Thursday.

The project will include two underground levels with 117 parking spaces at the southern entrance to Grand Park, near Hiqmet Buzi Street.

The municipality said the project was needed to meet growing demand for parking as the capital’s population and number of vehicles increase.

The development is intended to ease parking demand from visitors to the Artificial Lake while improving access and traffic organisation at the park’s southern entrance, while preserving green and public space.

The facility will include ventilation systems, surveillance cameras, access controls and modern lighting.

TIRANA, June 17 /ATA/ During his address at the Annual Conference of the Eastern Bloc Commission, Prime Minister Edi Rama also addressed the ongoing protests regarding the tourism project in Zvërnec.

Rama stated that, “Recent events in my country perfectly illustrate the dark side of the digital age. A proposed tourism project on the Albanian coast ignited a massive international firestorm. Unverified claims of environmental disaster and corruption were accepted as fact almost overnight. Rumors quickly morphed into dogmas, creating an environment where demanding actual proof was treated as a crime”.

The prime minister added that: “While this project is important for Europe, the episode is even more significant for what it revealed.”

“Outrage now goes viral globally long before the facts or formal processes can even be verified. This digital hysteria—where criticism devolves into a public lynching—is no longer a localized, Albanian, or even isolated European issue. It is a fundamental crisis of democracy: if we cannot protect the boundary between fact and fiction, we risk losing our collective ability to engage in rational, good-faith debate”, stated Rama.

Rama argued that institutions change their very nature the moment people stop believing in democracy. When that belief dies, legitimacy erodes and demagogues thrive. The middle ground vanishes, the edges take over, and politics devolves into an escalating cycle of radicalization. Democracy rarely falls because citizens stop showing up to the polls. It fails when people stop believing in facts and truth that exist outside their own tribe.

According to him, democratic systems aren’t dismantled by force, but by a thousand lies. It’s a death by a thousand cuts where shared reality is shattered into mutually exclusive realities.

“Therefore, the future of Europe does not depend only on military power, economic competitiveness or technological innovation. It also depends on our ability to defend reality itself, to defend evidence, to defend reason, to defend the difficult but irreplaceable discipline of facts,” concluded PM Rama. /p.s./

TIRANA, June 9 /ATA/ Socialist Party Chairman and Prime Minister Edi Rama shared the news that another major investment is on the horizon for the area between Kavaja and Durrës.

During his speech on occasion of the 35th anniversary of the Socialist Party in Fier, Rama said that, “We are bringing even more transformative investments to Albania. Very soon, we will announce a massive new project located between Kavaja and Durrës, and I can’t wait to hear what the critics say about it this time.”

The prime minister made a comparison with neighboring countries that have drawn massive tourism investments. “Why should we look with envy at Greece, Croatia, or Montenegro—a nation the size of Fier? If Montenegro can secure higher wages, better pensions, and a thriving economy, why must we stay here, accept the status quo, and bow to the corrupt? They treat Albania like their own private estate”, said Rama.

“Who are these people claiming ‘Albania is ours’ and demanding we step aside? The public speaks through the democratic system, and their voice is heard loud and clear on election day,” he continued.

When a citizen on social media urged the government to prioritize salaries, pensions, and inflation over the environment, the Prime Minister agreed that living conditions require urgent attention.

“But, we must ask ourselves: if we restrict foreign investment and skilled immigration, how do we stimulate wage growth?” said Rama, emphasizing the importance of investments and economic development. /e.i/j.p/p.s./

TIRANA, June 9 /ATA/ Ten days into the protests against the controversial Zvërnec development, citizens rallied first at “Skënderbej” Square. They repeated calls for Prime Minister Edi Rama’s resignation, Berisha’s removal from opposition leadership, and investigations into politicians’ wealth, all while condemning the sell-off of national assets.

After gathering in Skanderbeg square in Tirana downtown, the protesters marched along “Martyrs of Nation” Boulevard to regroup in front of the Premier’s Office.

Activist Alben Kola is urging Rrjoll citizens to join the June 13 protest following the erection of new fences on public land. From Zvërnec to Rrjoll, the rallying cry is clear: Enough is enough.”

Waiting for more citizens to join the protest, the representative of the coordination group said that these protests go far beyond protecting flamingos; they are a breaking point for all the systemic struggles the Albanian people face daily.

So today, according to him, the American flag was also flying in the protest.

The march began, according to the call of the coordination group, with women and children at the forefront.

While they gathered in front of the Premier’s Office, there began the 3-minute speeches. The representative of the coordination group said that there are not 2 thousand people in the square, but all Albanian youth.

“Albanians have come together to save the country from all the injustices of many years, while many young people live abroad because they have not found opportunities in their own country,” she said, emphasizing that they are protesting without a political party.

Another protester spoke about Rrjolli after she has been protesting there for four months. “Rrjolli is not against investments, but against property theft. It is one of the most important ecological corridors of the EU and I call on the EU to turn its eyes to Rrjolli,” said protester Luçiana Kokaj. According to her, there are 180 species of birds that migrate and have their stopover in Rrjoll, which is a protected area.

According to her, yesterday the residents woke up to their land surrounded by barbed wire.

Another protester speaking at the protest said that the port of Durres is a state crime. A former student protester questioned why the same promises remain unfulfilled 35 years later.

“By combining absolute control with communist-style centralization, the ruling class clings to power out of fear of reckoning. The alternative is a renewed society rooted in mutual faith and a credible justice system”, said he.

A girl who came from abroad to speak at the protest addressed the protesters as the face of the new Albania. According to her, this is a historic moment because for the first time in 35 years, Albanians are united regardless of party belonging and show that they are not being oppressed by anyone. /p.s./

The prime minister emphasized that whoever protests must bring out and show the project they are protesting about. But, he added that the project is not completed. There has been work underway on it for almost three years.

“Because we, on behalf of Albanians – because Albania belongs to Albanians – have maintained a very demanding stance on the standards of a project that will bring 4 billion euros to Albania. 27 billion euros is the entire GDP”, said Rama.

“We have been very demanding on all these concerns that those who fall prey to manipulators have”, said Rama. /gj.m/a.f/r.e/p.s./

TIRANA, May 21 /ATA/ – The “Gateway to the Alps” project envisages 100 million euros in investment for the northern Albania district of Shkodra, aimed at upgrading public infrastructure and promoting year-round tourism in the region, Infrastructure and Energy Minister Enea Karakaçi said on Thursday.

Speaking in parliament, Karakaçi said the project includes the construction of connecting roads, improvements to public transport and stronger infrastructure links between Albania’s coastline and the Albanian Alps, creating new opportunities for economic and tourism development in surrounding areas.

He said the project would improve connectivity between tourist destinations and support the development of year-round tourism in Shkodra county and neighbouring regions, including Lezha, Kukës and Dibra.

Karakaçi said the financing would not increase public debt and described the initiative as a concrete measure to support the development of northern Albania.

According to the minister, an additional 50 million euros in financing has been committed by German development bank KfW, while the next phase of the project is currently awaiting approval.

The investment is expected to deliver direct benefits for residents and visitors by improving infrastructure and boosting the tourism potential of northern Albania, he added.

Karakaçi said the “Gateway to the Alps” project, financed with 100 million euros from the European Investment Bank, was unrelated to the government’s separate “Mountain Package” initiative, which involves private investment and other state-backed projects.

The Minister was responding to questions and concerns raised by opposition lawmakers over transparency regarding the projects to be financed and their potential impact on Albania’s external debt.
