During the introduction, Gogu emphasised the importance of strengthening security and standards within the institutions responsible for the execution of penal decisions, highlighting the need for professionalism, integrity, and accountability at every level of the system.
During the presentation, discussions focused on strengthening the institution’s role in ensuring compliance with the law and security.
The Minister emphasised the need for a balanced approach, combining greater institutional independence with enhanced accountability, as well as the development of stronger investigative, monitoring, and preventive capacities, in support of security and the rule of law.
“Security in the institutions responsible for the execution of penal decisions requires professionalism, integrity, and accountability at every level of the system,” said Toni Gogu.
He added that, at the current stage of justice reform and the European integration process, standards within the penitentiary system form part of the broader standards of a European state that are being built on a daily basis.
