TIRANA, March 16 /ATA/ Prime Minister Edi Rama said that, “the government has coped with challenging situations even before. We have contended with the largest number of protests per time unit during the time we have been in government. But this protest is a disgrace that will go down in history.”

During the conversation in Durrës with small business entrepreneurs, Rama pointed out that “as soon as we took office, we had to cope with the protest for chemical weapons. A protest of historic importance in terms of magnitude, so the government drew back proving the protesters right.”

“Another protest, which resonated, was that of Kukës residents for the maintenance toll on the Nation Road. The residents of Kukes rightly raised the concern that they lived there and in turn had to move much more often than others, so they were right and the government was not right and if you remember, I we apologized for that stress and that wrong initiative of the government back then .”

“Another big protest was that of the students and still the government took into account all the concerns and interacted with them to come up with a pact for the university and the outcome of all that is tangible today,” Prime Minister said, adding: “I follow with great interest various parties of interest protesting in front of parliament.”

Rama pointed out that the right to protest belongs to everyone, but not every protest is right or not every right demanded today can be fulfilled straight away.

“I believe that this government has brought to life a series of things even in the political culture of the country. One of the things it has brought about is a completely different approach to protest, which is not at all arrogant, brutal, indifferent, disrespectful. I cannot accept it silently, when they tell me you are arrogant. “Maybe I fight for my convictions by nature and I insist on that, but this protest this time, apart from containing all the absurdness of agreeing with the facts, is a national disgrace,” the Prime Minister said.

Rama stressed that, “I have a feeling of respect and sensitivity to the protests because the government can understand through them what is right and should be done and what is unfair and cannot be done. But this protest is a disgrace and will go down in history.”

“This is the only protest in all NATO countries, not of NATO, but in Europe and outside Europe that was organized against the government as soon as the war triggered the price hike. It is nothing but lack of dignity, character as well as shamelessness of ignorance,” Prime Minister said.
