After the meeting of the SP leadership, Rama said that, “today we gathered to implement the decisions taken in the Congress and for this reason we will convene the National Assembly at the end of the first week of May.”

Rama added, “we discussed the process of identifying the candidate for the new president of the Republic, as the time to start the process is officially approaching.”

Asked if he has identified a person who comes up to the expectations, Rama said that, “if we had identified any, we would have published his or her name.”

“I do not understand what you mean when saying those that have received the highest number of votes, because we did not vote, we have collected proposals, and what we have said publicly and today in the meeting of the party leadership is a consolidated decision that the candidate will not come from the SP parliamentary group”, Rama stressed.

Asked if the new president can come beyond the Albanian territory, Rama said that, “it would be very good, but under our Constitution such a thing is unlikely to happen. It is a constitution drafted at another time and has provided that someone who in the last 10 years does not live in Albania cannot be elected President of the Republic of Albania. So it sets limits, not to say it rules out the possibility of a president coming from outside the official territory of the Republic of Albania. ”
