TIRANA Dec 7 /ATA/ The Legal Advisor to President of the Republic, Bledar Dervishaj, said at a media briefing on Tuesday that the Constitutional Court decision for June 30 elections was disappointing and counter to the interests of the Albanian people.

“The President was officially acquainted with the decision of the Constitutional Court that dismissed the request of the Association of Municipalities, which since July 18 had asked this court to declare the one-party voting process of June 30, 2019 unconstitutional. President of Republic participated in this constitutional trial in his capacity as party of interest and supported the request of the Association of Albanian Municipalities. Other than that, President of the Republic, in this trial, as party of interest, asked the Constitutional Court, which is charged with settling the constitutional disputes, checking the constitutionality of acts or decisions issued by government bodies to fulfil the role, mission and responsibilities set out in the Constitution, independently, objectively as well as with full courage and responsibility, in order to deliver a decision-making on its merits, addressing and orienting at the same time the way of handling the serious consequences of a monistic, unconstitutional, biased and fictitious voting process, as was June 30, 2019, ″ Dervishaj said.

Dervishaj said that “only through a judgement on its merits, the Constitutional Court would restore the Albanian people the opportunity to express their will through a free, fair, secret electoral process, and in compliance with all constitutional, legal and international standards to elect its representatives in local government. ”
