TIRANA, May 22 /ATA/-By Maela Marini/ – Prime Minister Edi Rama told a meeting with local residents in the towns of Klos and Mat on Monday that his Socialist Party’s landslide victory in the May 14 local elections poses a tremendous challenge for the ruling Socialists to deliver and implement major projects in the municipalities traditionally voting for the centre-right Democratic Party.

At a meeting as part of his post-election thank you tour, PM Rama noted that the SP victory was backed also by the right-leaning voters.

“It is about municipalities that have never voted in favour of the Socialist Party in the last 30 years. I have been told that a significant number of individuals known for their right-leaning affiliations in your communities, have publicly declared their vote in favour of our candidates this time,” he said.

The Premier thanked all voters regardless of their political affiliations and beliefs.

“I would also like to thank all of those who declined to cast their ballots, because although unwilling to vote for SP, they also refused to vote for Ilir Meta and therefore they significantly contributed to the election result,” he said.

The government head stated that the election result represents a major challenge for the ruling Socialist Party to deliver change and transformation projects in the traditionally right-leaning municipalities too.
