The National Agency for Protected Areas shared pictures of this remarkable location on social media, emphasizing its vegetation, which includes Euphorbia dendroides, one of the most well-preserved habitats for this species in Albania.

Porto Palermo is also a significant habitat for other valuable species, such as Lithophylum byssoides and meadows of Posidonia oceanica.

The “Porto Palermo” Nature Park was earmarked by a Council of Ministers Decision (VKM) in 2022, as a Category IV protected area. The “Nature Park” of Porto-Palermo Bay covers a total area of 1,694.98 hectares, of which 1,490.4 hectares (87.93%) are marine, and 204.58 hectares (12.07%) are terrestrial.

The Porto Palermo – Llamani area, especially the bays, is a very important resource for fishing and marine aquaculture.

The Posidonia meadows form underwater grasslands. The pristine coastal-marine area, with intact underwater values such as the presence of archaeological remains (amphorae) from the 2nd century BC, is fantastic for divers. The area also contains three fish farming centers (marine aquaculture).
