The improved conditions have made the swimming pool into an increasingly attractive place not only for professional swimmers, but also for the amateurs.

Prime Minister Edi Rama shared today in the social media images from the reborn public swimming pool in Durrës, where children and adults can have fun and exercise.

The “Taq Dafa” swimming pool in Durrës has been completely reconstructed, meeting all the requirements for an Olympic swimming pool.

TIRANA, May 9/ATA/ During the archaeological excavations at the site of the “Gjergj Kastrioti” school in Durrës, there has been discovered the traces of a villa and an indoor swimming pool that belong to the Roman period, the first of its kind discovered by archaeological excavations in Albania.

These archaeological findings are thought to date back to the 1st-4th centuries AD.

The National Institute of Cultural Heritage said that, “The archaeological excavations, which at the current stage cover an area of 1200 m2, have given a special panorama of the urban organization of the area, where we are probably dealing with a part of the city where the elite strata of the society lived”.

“The villa is decorated on its entire surface with colorful frescoes of a high artistic level”, said the Institute.

Archaeologists believe that this villa was destroyed by the earthquake of the 4th century AD, which is mentioned in ancient sources.

Last year, during opening of the foundations for reconstruction of the “Gjergj Kastrioti” high school, within the framework of the EU4Schools program financed by the EU and implemented by UNDP, there was discovered a part of the rare antique mosaic. This mosaic, composed of dark blue and white stones with geometric and floral figures, dates back to the end of the 1st century and the beginning of the 2nd century and is part of a luxurious villa that was located near Durrës amphitheater. /k.s/r.e/p.s./
