TIRANA, March 5 /ATA/ – Prime Minister Edi Rama, and the Minister of Education and Sports Ogerta Manastirliu, inspected Wednesday the ongoing work on reconstruction of the Polytechnic University of Tirana under a project designed to rehabilitate the two existing university buildings, construction of a new Geology Museum, modern labs, lecture halls and classrooms to improve conditions and the learning outcomes.

Education Minister said that work has kicked off around a year ago and the project is scheduled to complete by December 2025.

“The work on rehabilitation and reconstruction of the Geology and Mining campus began a year ago. The main university corpus is a historical building and careful work is needed to preserve its identity and repair damages due to the earthquake,” Manastirliu said.

According to her, the reconstruction project has been designed by the university professors themselves and the state budget has allocated a fund of six million euros.

One of the university professors said that it is a heritage building and a Category III Monument.

“It took us time to reassess and identify the structural damages inflicted by the earthquake. The project focuses on the preservation and reassessment of the building. The existing building will house two important university departments. We will also create an open museum, similar to a Washington museum and other facilities around the world,” he said.
