TIRANA, June 4 /ATA/ Under the artistic direction of “Great Master” Roland Çenko, the education of the new generation through polyphonic singing culminated in a memorable evening filled with emotion, tradition, and national pride at Gjirokastër’s “Çerçiz Topulli” square. The event featured young performers, polyphonic groups, and passionate artists, celebrating a rich cultural heritage.

This project, supported by the Ministry of Economy, Culture, and Innovation, brought together polyphonic groups from various regions of the country on an open-air stage, creating a vibrant mosaic of vocal traditions, isopoliphonic songs, and Albanian folk dances.

Approximately 150 students from three schools in Gjirokastër and the school in Libohovë performed polyphonic songs and traditional dances, highlighting the dedication of young people to preserving isopoliphony—one of Albania’s most unique musical traditions. In 2005, UNESCO designated Albanian isopoliphony as a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity, a recognition that celebrates both its artistic value and the resilience with which it has been transmitted across generations.
