TIRANA, April 8 /ATA/ – By I. Vata/ The State Police Director General, Gledis Nano, has reacted on Friday over the operation conducted by the Special Prosecution Against Corruption and Organized Crime in collaboration with the Special Prosecution of Kosovo in Morina border crossing, which resulted in the arrest of 34 police officers suspected of receiving bribes for allowing citizens to cross illegally and smuggle goods.

Nano encouraged all law enforcement agencies to continue investigating police officers who are suspected of abuse.

“Today, SPAK and Police Oversight Agency have made an announcement regarding an operation and execution of some security measures for police officers and citizens charged with abuse of office and other criminal offenses. The State Police has been engaged in this operation since the beginning of this investigation, helping other law enforcement agencies, because, as I have said from day one in this office, integrity of Police employees is our top priority. Those police officers who are not comfortable with the idea of serving with honesty should leave the ranks of State Police. We will not allow that those betraying uniform, friends and colleagues stain all this Police force with dedicated people.”

Regarding the police measures for the Easter holiday, Nano said that “we are on full alert to handle the situation in the event of any influx at border crossings.”
