PRISTINA, June 15 /ATA/ – Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti stated Thursday that the NATO-led peacekeeping mission in the country should not remain silent over the kidnapping of three Kosovo police officers inside the country’s territory a day ago.

Reporting to lawmakers at parliament session, Kurti said that KFOR should assume effective responsibility to exercise its mission against aggression and violation of Kosovo’s territorial sovereignty.

Kosovo PM Kurti underscored that KFOR mission is tasked with defending the country’s border line in case of a military aggression.

“Defending the border line is a common responsibility of KFOR and Kosovo Police. Under NATO-s international mandate, KFOR is tasked with defending the borders of Kosovo when aggression is of military nature. This is the responsibility KFOR has assumed when the mission and the then Prime Minister Thaci agreed not to deploy our army to that part of the state. That’s why we are waiting for KFOR to assume its effective responsibility and exercise its defence duties and order Serbia to return the kidnapped policemen to Kosovo and punish this flagrant violation of Kosovo’s territorial integrity. KFOR should not remain silent or give up to a kidnapping attack that KFOR is tasked with preventing,” Kurti said.

Kurti announced that he has pretested against KFOR’s silence over the case and said he was working to ensure that the three kidnapped police officers return back home.

PM Kurti noted that Kosovo police have demonstrated maximum self-restraint in face of violent protests in the country’s north.
