Accompanied by the Minister of Health and Social Protection Ogerta Manastirliu, PM Rama saw the regional hospital’s transformation up close, thanks to the government-funded investment projects.

Health Minister informed that news investment in the paediatric hospital, where no investment was made over the years, fully completes the Elbasan regional hospital project.

“The last investment to be implemented in this hospital was in the ’90s. We will also start the vaccination of the medical personnel at the Elbasan hospital and the process will then expand to cover the municipal hospitalities in the entire central district,” she said.

Health Minister noted that the project also includes installation of a heating system, an external wall insulation system and installation of a medical gas pipeline system for 60 beds.

“In other words, the project is designed to turn it into a hospital facility that meets highest contemporary standards. It will be adapted as paediatric child-friendly hospital. Over all these years, we have tried to implement partial investments in our hospitals. The work is underway and it is set to complete within 18 months, but we want the project to complete within this year,” she said.

Manastirliu also said that preparations have been made to launch a COVID-designated ward to treat patients who contract the infection.

“The medical gas piping system has been already installed and the medical devices are all in place to make this ward operational for treatment of COVID-19 patients if necessary,” she said.

Health Minister also said that the COVID-19 vaccination site has been also opened at Elbasan hospital.

“A vaccination site for the Elbasan hospital personnel has been opened here. The vaccination process is underway with administering the first vaccine doses to 80 doctors and nurses, whereas the process will continue with the vaccination of the health personnel in Librazhd, Përrenjas, Gramsh,” she said.

“I work for over 21 years at Elbasan hospital and the transformations that have taken place over the past few years are tangible,” a doctor said.

‘That’s why I voice my sympathy as abusers and thugs unfairly stain your efforts, but they cannot shadow the extraordinary value you have demonstrated at this stage and really the extraordinary sacrifice that you are doing.”
