TIRANA, Aug. 9 /ATA/ – Prime Minister Edi Rama on Sunday praised Air Force pilots, firefighters and special army and police units for protecting residents during a major wildfire around the central Albanian town of Kruja.

In a social media post, Rama said the emergency crews had successfully faced a “daunting challenge,” battling fires continuously across Kruja, Kamza, Tirana and Vora during a period of intense summer heat.

“Only one isolated fire front on the summit of Mount Kruja remains active, but the countless messages of thanks and congratulations from residents remain a source of pride and motivation for our forces,” Rama said.

He also shared a message from a Kruja resident living in Belgium, who thanked the government for its aerial firefighting support and the efforts of local firefighters.

The resident said authorities and firefighters had done everything possible to extinguish what he described as an unprecedented fire.

TIRANA, May 25/ATA/ Valdete Mehanja and Armela Murati are two aviatrixes who seems to have added the real significance of interaction to the largest exercises that are being held in Europe, “Defender 2021”.

Lieutenant Valdete Mehanja was born in Kosovo, but for years she has been a helicopter pilot with the Aviation Regiment 1-131, in the Alabama National Guard. She came to Albania as part of the American troops that are participating in the “Defender” 21 exercise”.

At Farka Air Base, she met the only girl in the military helicopter pilot course, Lieutenant Armela Muratin. Armela has joined the Albanian Armed Forces for a year and said that she chose this course by chance, after being appointed to the Air Force.

The two girls shared the secrets of the profession, but also shared the ambition to be equal among men in this profession.

Lieutenant Mehanja said that it was a surprise for her to come to Albania as an American soldier, as she had never been before. Asked why she chose to join the US Army, she has a strong reason: “I joined the US Army, because this army, especially America, has helped the Albanian people a lot, especially Kosovo. And I feel like I owe to it.” Lieutenant Mehanja said she used to be a civilian pilot.

Lieutenant Armela Murati, while listening to advice from the American college in Albanian, said that she has received support and courage in an environment where men predominate. “I did not intend to become a pilot. I just wanted to serve my country, fate wanted me to join the Air Force and I am already a student. The pressure is quite great, but I have come with clear goals and I want to take this step that I have taken to the end”, said lieutenant Murati.

This ambition of the young girl from Albania is encouraged by Lieutenant Valdete Mehanja, who has spent 11 years to get here. “Do not give up, because everything is worth it!”, said the Albanian who represents the USA in “Defender 2021” ./ m.m /p.s./
