TIRANA, Sept. 4 /ATA/ – Authorities have monitored 237 pig farms across Albania as part of efforts to prevent and detect African swine fever (ASF), the National Veterinary and Plant Protection Authority (AKVM) said on Friday.

Veterinary teams are carrying out regular inspections to identify any suspected cases at an early stage, the authority said.

Farmers have been urged to strictly implement biosecurity measures and review their plans in cooperation with veterinarians.

The measures include limiting access to farms, regularly cleaning and disinfecting vehicles, equipment and facilities, and training staff in proper biosecurity procedures.

The AKVM said any unusual pig deaths or other suspected signs should be reported immediately to local veterinarians.

Early detection, monitoring and timely reporting are key to protecting farms and containing the spread of African swine fever, the Veterinary Authority said.
