TIRANA, Jan 8 /ATA/ Minister of Defense, Niko Peleshi, stated on Sunday that the first phase of the Ground-Air-Ground (GAG) communication project was completed, as well as the agreement for the increase of the air fleet with unmanned combat aircraft was signed with the Turkish company ‘Bayraktar’ during 2022.

Albania and the Turkish firm “Bayraktar” signed on December 21, 2022 the agreement for the purchase of a fleet of unmanned drones, the highest flight technology for military, police and civil missions.

“The ‘Bayraktar’ drones have a worldwide reputation for their military defense capability, but we will also use them for civilian purposes, we hope not to use them for such purposes. Combined with satellite services, they will give us an extraordinary potential,” said Peleshi.

Other than the added potential, Peleshi continued, the challenge is whether will know, not only here, but also in all other institutions, even private operators, to benefit from these services.

As for the “Albania 1” and “Albania 2” satellites, Peleshi said that the images that will be obtained will contribute to many elements.

“Satellite services can also be made available to, for example, agricultural farms, but also to other operators who need accurate satellite imagery,” said the minister.

“Satellites provide useful insights. I assure you that satellites will be an important tool to be used by State Police institutions. When you invest in technology you invest to save. They save time and money. We have a state agency that has done a fantastic job. These two capacities will be added value, but also cost-effective for the state budget,” stated Peleshi.

Also, the minister said that “The Armed Forces will have the anti-tank missile system “Javelin” and air defense system “Stinger.”
